Thousands of people throughout Charlotte, North Carolina recently gathered together to run, walk, skip, and dance their way through Memorial Stadium in this first-ever event of its kind. Meck Mile celebrated the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, which was drafted on May 20, 1775, rejecting British rule for the city and county. Captain James Jack delivered these history-making documents from Charlotte to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The run honored his cross-country journey and this momentous occasion that helped lead to the Revolutionary War and the freedom of the United States.
The event was organized by the Charlotte Sports Foundation and presented by Albermarle. It featured different heats by skill level, including for professional runners, as well as many family-friendly activities.
